The Angels
Intro:
The Japanese (original) dub used the word Shito (Shitou). It means Messenger. However, the English dub and sub translated Shito into Angel. Since Angel is an old word for Messenger, it is acceptable. But I still think that it'd be more "fitting" if they'd translated Tenshi into Angel, instead. Shito could be translated into Messenger, but then again, how cool would it sound if Misato shouted "The Messenger if trying to probe through Eva Unit 01's armor! Withdraw!".
All the names of Evangelion Angels 3-17 are names of different Angels in Hebrew.
Did you know that Iel is an old Hebrew word for God? Most Angels of Evangelion have Iel in the end of their name.
The 1st Angel - Adam
According to the Bible, Adam was the first human created by God, after his own image. According to Evangelion, Adam was the first Angel to come to Earth. He was found, dead, at the South Pole. The Katsuragi Expedition, consisting of Dr. Katsuragi, Naoko Akagi and Yui Ikari, found Adam and resurrected him. But Adam went on a killing spree and the Katsuragi expedition decided to shrink Adam into an embryo state. Unfortunately, the process create such great energy and tension that the Polar icecap melted. Giant tsunamis washed over the Earth and half of the population died out.
The 2nd Angel - Lillith
According to the Bible, Lillith was the very first wife of Adam. Together, them spawned the race called Lillim, a.k.a. Humankind. Lillith later on turned into a demon, which attacked the babies and attacked sleeping men, making them ejaculate in their sleep. According to Evangelion, Lillith was the second Angel to visit Earth. How she got here is very uncertain. Lillith is the giant Angel corpse that can be found behind Heaven's Door in Central Dogma. She was crucified onto a cross and then pierced in her chest by the Lance Of Longinus to keep her legs from growing. Her face is sealed with a mask with seven eyes, SEELE's insignia.
The 3rd Angel - Sachiel - The Angel Of Water
Sachiel was the third Angel to visit Earth. He traveled to Tokyo-3 by travelling underwater. It was also the first of the Angels that went on a killing spree, trying to get to Adam. Both the Angels and the personnel of NERV believed the corpse of Lillith to be Adam. Sachiel was also the first Angel to battle an Eva. The UN forces tried with everything at first. They tried canons, planes, choppers, even a N^2 bomb, but nothing worked. Eva Shogoki was sent into battle. Sachiel has two faces, both resembling the face of the Twelve Winged Angel. Sachiel's core is fully visible, sprouting out from its chest.
The 4th Angel - Shamsel - The Angel Of Day
Only a week after Sachiel's death, Shamsel appeared in Tokyo-3. First, it had an insect like form. Then, it arose and became a figure very resembling to one of the typical images of an alien. It has an octopus-like head and a thin body. It has two shoulders, from which two very long and sharp energy wipes shoot out. It even managed to probe its energy wipes through Eva Shogoki's armor and out of its back. However, it was vanquished by a simple stab from Eva Shogoki's progressive knife in the core.
The 5th Angel - Ramiel - The Angel Of Thunder
As Ramiel approached the Geofront, NERV sent missiles, planes and tanks to shoot at it. But its AT-field was too strong. Ramiel attacked NERV's forces with a particle beam that killed everything in its way. Eva Shogoki was sent out and Shinji tried with his Positron Rifle, but it was to weak against Ramiel's AT-field. Ramiel settled down right above of the Geofront and sent down a drill and started drilling its way towards the Geofront. Since Ramiel only attacked things that came in a certain range, NERV withdrew all forces. Eva Zerogoki and Misato went out and fetched a very high technological giant rifle, which was powered by power from all over Japan. Eva Shogoki prepared to attack, but Ramiel attacked with its particle beam. However, Eva Zerogoki jumped in front of Eva Shogoki, shielding them both with a shield. Shinji fired off the gun and the beam went right through Ramiel, killing it instantly.
The 6th Angel - Gaghiel - The Angel Of Fish
Misato took Shinji and his friends Kensuke and Toji to German, where they were supposed to pick up the third Eva Unit, Eva Nigoki, from the Marine. However, they also met Asuka Langley Sohryu, the extremely obnoxious pilot of Eva Nigoki. Shortly after, Gaghiel appeared. It swam underwater and avoided the Marine's missiles while sinking all of the ships. It circled around, looking for something, probably Adam's embryo, which Kaji had in his possession. Asuka and Shinji jumped into Eva Nigoki but were swallowed whole and brought underwater by Gaghiel. Misato then came up with a plan. Shinji and Asuka had to work together to open up Gagiel's mouth and then escape. Meanwhile, two abandoned ships loaded with bombs were sunk into Gaghiel's mouth. Gaghigel exploded shortly after.
The 7th Angel - Israfel - The Angel Of Music
Israfel attacked Tokyo-3 and Eva Shogoki and Nigoki were sent out to battle it. Asuka wanted to show off, so she jumped in front of Israfel and split it in half. However, the two halves transformed into Angels and attacked both Evas. Defeat was inevitable. However, NERV sent out military forces that severely damaged Israfel, though only temporary. While Israfel was regenerating itself, Misato made Asuka move in with her and Shinji and together, Asuka and Shinji had to learn to synchronize their actions with music, so that they could attack both Angels simultaneously. After a long training, Shinji and Asuka were sent out again. By synchronizing their actions, they managed to merge Israfel's two halves into one and then smash its core with their feet. Israfel exploded, leaving Eva Shogoki and Nigoki entangled in a crater.
The 8th Angel - Sandalphon - The Angel Of Embryos
NERV detected Sandalphon in a vulcano. It was still an embryo and NERV wanted to have a live Angel to study it. Therefor, they put on special suits around Eva Nigoki and Asuka to protect them against the lava and then sent them down into the vulcano. The mission was to catch the Angel and then bring it back to surface. However, NERV risked a Third Impact in doing this, since they tried the same thing 15 years ago and it resulted in the Second Impact. However, the Angel was so deep down that Asuka lost her Progressive Knife while descending. The embryo after that Asuka had caught it and got loose from its electromagnetic cage. The mission was changed from capture to destroy and Asuka had to use hand-to-hand combat to kill it. Eva Shogoki threw its Progressive Knife down so that Eva Nigoki could catch it. Sandalphon attacked Eva Nigoki and opened its mouth and started chewing through Eva Nigoki. Asuka tried to penetrate Sandalphon's skin with the knife, but it didn't work. Asuka suddenly came up with an idea. She made Sandalphon swallowed cable 3 and channeled all of the cooling water to it. Sandalphon died and slowly started to dissolve, but Asuka thought she was dead since her Umbilical Cable was cut off during the battle and Eva Nigoki's suit started to break down. However, Eva Shogoki reached down and hauled Eva Nigoki up.
